1 Simple Way to Change Your Day

Today I want to share a quick tip that has helped me immensely in my life.  I don’t know about you but sometimes I need little reminders of how good I have it.  See, I have days where I get totally overwhelmed, stressed, sad, depressed, frustrated, ungrateful, etc…  I know, I am probably the only one who has days like this… J/K 😉 (does anyone say J/K anymore…? oh well, I like it.)

The thing that almost always helps me snap out these moods is a pen and a handy little notebook.  That is all!  Seriously!  I take my trusty $2 notebook out and start writing 5 things that I am thankful for, right then in that moment.  It takes me out of all of the problems I think are huge at the time (like hating the laundry pile, kids acting crazy, bad hair day, bad everything day…) and reminds me that I have so much to be thankful for and to be more mindful.  Depending on the day and my mood it can take me longer than it should to get my 5 things jotted down… But I don’t put the pen down until I have written 5 things.  Other days I almost start crying when I start writing my five things as I realize that the list can go on and on and on and on.

I don’t just think about the things I am thankful for when I am not in a good mood because thoughts can be fleeting.  Actually making the effort to write down my gratitude grounds me and gives me something to look back on.

There are so many things in our lives that we take for granted, that we don’t pause for 5 seconds to enjoy and realize they are a blessing.  So, regardless of the kind of day you are having, take a moment to write down 5 things you are thankful for today, it will really turn your day and perspective around… EVEN if you are already having a brilliant day.  Then try making your Gratitude Journal a daily habit.

Today I am thankful for:

1.  Being there for Gabriella’s beautiful morning smiles.

2.  A job that helps provide for my family.

3.  My home in a safe neighborhood with beautiful trees and space to practice yoga.

4.  My husband for his love and patience and personality.

5.  Elizabeth’s excitement for life and example of really living in the moment.

Have a Beautiful Day full of Gratitude 🙂
